SIF is Poised to Tap on Huge Market Potential in Developing the Region’s First Ballast Water Treatment System

SIF Technologies was featured as one of the growing environmental enterprises supported by SPRING Singapore. By 2011, the green technologies will be worth about $US700 billion. By that time, the International Maritime Organisation will also require all newly built vessels to treat their ballast water before discharging it into the next port of call to prevent contamination of local water.
SIF Technologies is poised to tap on the this huge market potential as it collaborates with Sembcorp Marine, Memiontec and Ngee Ann Polytechnic Marine Centre of Innovation to develop the region’s first chemical free ballast water treatment system. Sembcorp Marine is one of the world’s largest oil rig and ship builders. The system under development will have great advantages over existing conventional methods as it does not utilize process chemicals nor draws additional energy.
